Site Summit Tours overview
Nike Site Summit was an active part of America's first line of military defense from 1959 to 1979, during the Cold War era. Now, Friends of Nike Site Summit (FONSS) volunteers are working with Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson to restore Site Summit as a valuable community resource, part of the Arctic Valley “experience,” and as a tool to educate current and future generations about the contributions of Cold War veterans, particularly those who served at Site Summit.
Tours are FONSS-volunteer-led and depart from Arctic Valley Ski Area parking via 28-passenger buses. No hiking is required, but the ground may be uneven in places. Tour itinerary will depend on weather and conditions.
Space is limited for each tour and registration will be closed once that limit has been reached. All participants must pre-register at least 30 days in advance so they can be cleared by JBER security. The tours are available for ages 12 and older only. Tours are non-refundable and non-transferable.
